LIBS AND ALLTHINGSYOGA
Whether you're an actor, musician, whoever you
are, as people, every day we hear on the news and
through various social media sites how we need to
be looking after our bodies. (After all, "your body is
a temple") But it's never very clear how exactly
we're meant to do that. One moment we should all
be trying the new kale-based diet, the next we
should be going on runs every day and making sure
we take time for ourselves. But no-one can do
everything (unless you’re J-Law because man can
she do everything!)
So, this week, we caught up with the new and
upcoming actor and theatre maker Liberty to talk about all things yoga and her new YouTube channel and merch! Libs is now 20 and has just been cast as Westenders’ latest star and is due to join the square this week as a new yoga instructor with a dark twist. Libs wanted to perform her role truthfully and so she started going to yoga classes, watching how-to videos and she now even has an Instagram channel (@allthingsyoga – link below!) This role for Libs has helped her find this passion for yoga and of course this new hobby comes with loads of health benefits!
"For me yoga is a way to escape from the day for five minutes," the flexible fitty explains, "obviously it helps me with my role on Westenders but I've actually felt a lot less stressed recently (and let’s face it we could all do with a little less stress!) I remember my first yoga lesson and I was kind of nervous because the closest I'd come to doing yoga was playing rounders in year 11, so I convinced my mum to come with me.” Libs thought it was going to be this weird hippie evening class thing and she did think this slightly, well you can imagine all the plants everywhere - "It was like a mini jungle in there".
That first lesson was all Liberty needed to be gripped on to all things yoga. "Admittedly," she says, "that particular class wasn't for me, but I did really enjoy the yoga and started to teach myself and build on my skills through watching different YouTube clips." From there, Liberty has taught and passed on her skills to others and even has an Instagram account dedicated to yoga (Check it out @allthingsyoga)

INSIDE
So, here at INSIDEARTS we thought who better to ask than Liberty on all the benefits of yoga.
"Yoga has helped me for a variety of reasons, with a role on my fave soap opera Westenders’ being pretty high on that list! Obviously, it is such a great stress reliever and a really nice way just to release all of the tensions of everyday life (trust me, I'm sure we all know the overwhelming stressful feeling and let's face it, it's not great!) Yoga has also really improved my physical health. It can be quite intense, especially as you start to build your muscle and core strength. But as an actor and theatre maker, my physical health is very important to me because acting can be really physically demanding and therefore, yoga is a fun and chill way to work out and gain this strength without having to go on a long run in the morning or lift weights at the gym. Yoga has also actually made me really happy. It sounds cliché but studies have found that consistent yoga practice improved depression, especially within late teens and those in their twenties. Yoga often leads to a significant increase in serotonin levels and a decrease in monoamine oxidase (an enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters) and cortisol. So, it has actually been scientifically proven that all things yoga can help you in so many ways."
"It really isn't hard to get started, and I'm not saying you have to go to an evening class that's more like a forest than a yoga studio! Give yoga a little search on YouTube or have a look at my Instagram account (@allthingsyoga) and I'm sure you will be able to find something. There are loads of videos on YouTube suitable for all abilities, so why not GET INVOLVED!"
